Super Junior’s Heechul recently revealed a picture he took with his fellow SBS ‘Gayo Daejun’ MC, CNBLUE’s Yong Hwa.

On December 30th, Heechul wrote on his Twitter, “Jung Yong Hwa and my alien superstar self have grown into distinguished MCs.”

He also added, “SBS Gayo Daejun has finished~ All the MCs did well~ Yong Hwa was daebak, improving incredibly after a year~ Our Super Junior members hoorah~ It was pretty exciting after doing it in a long time keke.”

It’s quite the dramatic commemoration photo, but that was probably the effect Heechul was going for!

According to MTV EXIT organisers, the event will be held next March or April and Super Junior will hold a live show at the Military Zone 7 Stadium in HCM City. MTV EXIT (End Exploitation and Trafficking), which is produced by the MTV Europe Foundation in partnership with the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Australian Government’s Agency for International Development (AUSAID), has held 15 concerts across Asia over the past two years, including Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Nepal, Taiwan and the Philippines to raise awareness and prevention of human trafficking and exploitation.
Super Junior is a boy group from South Korea formed by SM Entertainment in 2005. With a total of 12 members, they are one of the largest boy bands in the world.
The group consists of Leeteuk (leader), Heechul, Han Geng, Yesung, Kangin, Shindong, Sungmin, Eunhyuk, Donghae, Siwon, Ryeowook, Kibum and Kyuhyun. The only Chinese member, Han Geng, was chosen from three thousand applicants via auditions held in China by SM Entertainment in 2001.
Super Junior has released and contributed to 20 different kinds of records with varying degrees of success. Over the years, they have been divided into smaller sub groups, simultaneously targeting different music industries and audiences. Largely due to Super Junior’s success as entertainers, other Korean entertainment managements began to train their music groups in other areas of entertainment, such as acting and hosting.
In addition to their commercial success, Super Junior has earned seven music awards from the M.net Asian Music Awards, eleven from the Golden Disk Awards, and is the second singing group to win Favorite Artist Korea at the 2008 MTV Asia Awards after JTL in 2003.

Super Junior’s Siwon confirmed that he was not entangled in a ’slave contract’ in front of government officials during a press conference for “Athena: Goddess of War.”
Held on December 28th, the hour-long press conference was met with visits by government officials (such as Minister Yoo In Chon of the Ministry of Culture & Tourism), as well as by the CEO of the drama’s production company, Taewon Entertainment. The conference was called in order to listen to and discuss in detail some of the issues that the drama was going through, such as location rights and copyrighting.
Mid-conference, Yoo brought up the topic of unfair income distribution in contracts between entertainment agencies and their artists. Yoo had turned to Siwon and asked if such contracts still existed.
Siwon replied, “No, there are no such issues at the moment.”
When the Free Trade Commission’s standard entertainment contract was mentioned, Siwon stated, “All contracts are being made according to the FTC’s standards.”
When asked whether he felt any difficulties in acting in TV dramas, Siwon answered, “There isn’t anything too difficult. I will continue to do my best.”

Super Junior’s main vocalist Ryeowook (23) has admitted he considers himself a fan of IU. In a recent interview with Sports Seoul, Ryeowook confessed he’s a fan of IU, saying “I really like IU lately. She sings so well.”
He described what happened when IU won the SBS Inkigayo Mutizen award on the 19th. “When IU’s name was called for the Mutizen award, I burst into applause, and I didn’t even leave the stage, I just kept clapping”, adding that it was “Really refreshing”. He explained the last comment by saying “Lately idol groups are usually the winners on music shows, and with IU, a female soloist, winning first place it seems like the shows are being revitalized, it’s a great feeling.”
Meanwhile, Ryeowook, whose excellent voice has made him a lead vocal in Super Junior, has been making a name for himself in the field of drama OSTs as well. As he has already contributed to the OSTs for dramas such as MBC’s “My Happy Home”, KBS’s “President”, and SBS’s “It’s Okay, Daddy’s Girl”, it seems like he’s on his way to becoming a singer who specializes in OSTs.

Popular Korean group Super Junior (SJ) accompanied fans for Christmas on the night of the 25th with their Guangzhou show, but the weather was cold and it also rained, which made the stage extremely wet and slippery, Kyuhyun who had slipped simply endured the cold and took off his shoes to perform barefoot.
SJ’s Guangzhou stop for their Asian tour was held on Christmas night, but unfortunately the weather was bad; the low temperature and intermittent rain made the venue even colder. But the fans were still enthusiastic, with umbrellas and raincoats, they held up pearl sapphire blue light sticks that represents SJ to cheer them on.
Due to the rapidly-falling temperature, when SJ appeared on stage they were shaking from the cold because they were wearing light and thin clothes. When Sungmin, who was wearing short sleeves, played the guitar his fingers were nearly frozen stiff and almost could not continue playing. Due to the rain, the stage became wet and slippery, as a result, Siwon, Leeteuk and Kyuhyun all slipped one after another, and Kyuhyun simply took off his shoes to perform. When the fans saw their idols enduring the cold to perform, they all expressed their heartache and hoped they would not get sick.
Since they had come to China, devout Christian Siwon also did not forget to show off his Mandarin by saying: “today Jesus was born, God bless you all!” After that SJ coincided with the festival sprit and wore Christmas clothing to sing “Jingle Bells” as well as singing an early happy birthday song to Sungmin, which made the atmosphere at the venue extremely high.
Note~ Only the parts related to SJ have been translated.

NetEase Entertainment on December 23 reported recently that the Republic of China martial arts movie “My Kingdom” published a set of pictures, along with lead actor Han Geng, Wu Zun, Da S (Barbie Hsu) in stylish Republican China fashion. Being the most anticipated Chinese action blockbuster movie, collaboration with the foreign team in filming ensures the film is of international quality, the line-up of idol stars is also one of the movie’s attractions. Both the movie’s lead actors’ looks, strength and popularity are equal. The competition between both of them on and off screen is undoubtedly the interest of many.

Comparison in Strength: Wu Zun’s Transformation VS Han Geng’s Maiden Appearance
Wu Zun and Han Geng debuted at the same time in 2005, (their) differences are in their singing, makes a killing in their performance, getting album awards everywhere and the lead actor award. Wu Zun who relies on his unique advantage of years of physical training, has appeared initially in martial arts movies “Butterfly Lovers” and <14 Blades>, switching his focus of development to movies. By appearing in “My Kingdom” this time, will Wu Zun be able to present a perfect display in an artistic and martial action movie to break out from his idol title and transforming into an actor with strength? This will be the crucial point. He has received Sammo Hung’s special martial arts training as early as 3 months before the start of filming. Because of Da Wu Sheng, it can be said that Wu Zun has undergone hard work: “Whenever I am in Beijing and Shanghai, I will request the teacher to train (me) and record the demonstration. I will watch the recording and practise on my own when I am home.” This earnest attitude has earned (him) Big Brother Sammo Hung’s praise.Han Geng has gone solo for one year, accomplished in transforming from an idol group to a singer with strength, equal singing and dancing skills has earned him extensive acknowledgement. Already filming an action movie for his first time in the movie screen, (he) is facing the greatest challenge for his maiden appearance. Han Geng born with a fearless spirit** began participating in the training for acrobatic fighting in Chinese opera. “At the beginning, I was motivated, (has) a fresh feeling to it. I have the courage to try whatever action and will also be doing it fiercely. At the end of the fourth day, I pulled a muscle when I was exerting force.” Having studied dance for more than 10 years, this has became a good foundation for Han Geng when (executing) acrobatic fighting in Chinese opera for “My Kingdom”. Among the actors/actresses who are active at the movie screen, Michelle Yeoh and Zhang Ziyi with the help of their dancing (background) have successfully become martial art celebrities, Han Geng might be the next one.

Guessing on Their Characters: Brothers? Rivals in Love? Ambiguous?
It is reported that the story of “My Kingdom” occurs during the Chinese Republican era in Shanghai, Han Geng and Wu Zun will be acting as fellow apprentices of the Chinese opera performers specializing in martial arts. Actors of the Beijing opera in the 1920’s have an extremely high fame and prestige. The relationship between their fellow apprentices who have been learning from the master since young is deeper than family ties. “If you mess with my family, I definitely will not let you off.” This one verse from the script is what impresses Wu Zun most about Guan Yilong. “I had said the same thing as what Guan Yilong had said when I was young, family ties to me is the most important thing.” Han Geng’s character Meng Er Kui is more introverted comparatively: “Actually, there are similarities between me and Meng Er Kui. There are some things which I hardly tell my friends and family, I will keep it and digest it all in me. He (Meng Er Kui) wants revenge for his family, to avenge his master, sacrificed a lot for the people he loves but ends up hurting himself.”
Both who learned performing arts in the capital since young, has left home together and headed for the pleasure seeking and corrupted Old Shanghai, inevitably facing a series of problems. Will Han Geng and Wu Zun be able to hang on to their brotherhood or becoming enemies because of the character played by Da S. Or will it be similar to ‘Farewell My Concubine’, an ambiguous relationship which started as something fake that eventually became true. (This) might even become the movie’s controversial point.
Bursting With Popularity: Most Popular Idols in Taiwan and China PK*
Han Geng and Wu Zun, one is from the Korean idol group with various fans, the other from an all-rounder Taiwanese group. Both of them in Mainland China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macau and the South East Asia region, equally high level of popularity and idols with lots of fans. Now, both idols that are bursting with popularity will be filming together for the first time, (interactions) on and off screen will be the attraction for many fans.
Coincidentally, Han Geng and Wu Zun, whether it’s their looks, height and temperament, both are extremely similar especially when they have their costumes on and after make-up. So much so that both of them look like twin brothers. The evening before the start of filming, the director has especially arranged for both of them to eat together, chatting while having food. After nearly 3 hours of long talk, Han Geng and Wu Zun have become fast friends who can talk about anything. After filming over slightly a month with the cast and crew of “My Kingdom”, both have the chemistry between them in their Beijing opera stage posture and acrobatic fighting. This has become a joke among the staff members who called them the ‘male version of TWINS’*. With both these idol stars in real life acting as a Beijing opera actors during the China Republican era, what kind of results would there be for these two good-looking guys who are collaborating for the first time. This has lead to both fans and film enthusiast to find it out.
* T/N:
1. PK is “competing” with each other in Mandarin.
2. TWINS is a female Cantopop group made up of Gillian Chung and Charlene Choi.
